This is one of my favorite styles that I keep my natural hair in for moisture retention, protection and growth.
The reason why this hairstyle is so good for my natural hair is because the twists keep my hair moisturized. The high ponytail keeps the twists close to my scalp, which contributes to moisture retention as well as easy access for the natural oils to get to a large amount of my hair. It is also quick, easy and cute. This style helps me to maintain hair growth and length because the hair is far away from my shoulders and neck, which makes it more difficult for me to play in and potentially damage. Be a ware that this hairstyle if done correctly can contribute to the overall health and growth of your hair,
Do not pull tightly on the front, edges or back. That is why I left out the bangs. They are “long enough” to stretch into the ponytail, but I do not want to put any strain or stress At All on the front, hair line of my head.
This hairstyle is versatile and it can be styled with accessories or even “natural hair twist braids” to make the bun look more full.
One of the most important aspects of growing your hair fast, long and healthy (besides using natural products) is to properly protect you hair. This is what a Protective Style means. You put your hair in a style that will keep your hair safe from snags, knots, breakage, split ends, dryness, etc. Protective styles keep the hair that is on your head healthy and they allow you to grow new, healthy hair. Protective styles keep you from damaging your hair from the outside environment as well as from yourself (keep your hands out of your hair). My Protective style of choice is keeping my hair in twists. When my hair is twisted, I find that my hair stays moisturized longer, especially if I have used my shea butter mixture on wash day or on “moisturize” day. I also find that I am not playing in it very often.

I take my Protective Style one step further and I keep my head wrapped throughout the day with a silk/satin head scarf. If I am going outside, I will either cover my silk/satin scarf with a wig or with a beanie hat. I do this to further ensure that I am keeping my hair protected and safe.

Best Protective Style (for all hair types)
I know not everyone has the same type of hair texture as myself, so an overall, very good and effective protective style for all hair types would be a simple bun. Keeping your hair in a bun protective style keeps the moisture in your hair. It keeps the moisture in your hair because all of your hair is so close to your scalp and that is where all of your natural oils are generating from. Also the humidity from the natural heat that your body gives off, keeps your hair from drying out. *TIP* To keep your hair moisturized for longer amounts of time, while it is in a bun, spritz it with water before you wrap it up.
